Assessing the Wild Trout Fishery

Putah Creek Trout is working with the California Department of Fish and Game to monitor the health of the wild trout population in the creek through angler surveys.  Once the fishery is surveyed, appropriate steps to improve its management can be undertaken.

You can help by filling out an angler survey after every time you fish the creek--even if you don’t catch anything.  Survey boxes are located in the parking lots near the Hwy 128 bridge and Access 5 and the turnout below Access 5.  We have also developed an online version of the survey which will be transmitted to the DFG.  Complete a survey online. Flows

After the summer irrigation season ends, the flows in Putah Creek are cut back dramatically.  These low flows often occur when the trout are spawning.  We are working with the Solano County Water Agency (SCWA) with the goal of reducing the impacts of low flows and flow fluctuations that may adversely affect habitat and the successful natural reproduction of wild trout.

Enforcement

Fishing out of season and a lack of enforcement of the current regulations has been an ongoing issue on Putah Creek.  PCT has posted regulations signs and is working with DFG to improve compliance.  We have developed an online form to report suspicious activity on the creek that will be forwarded to the appropriate authority.
